The most common procedures are eye brows, eye liner, lip liner and full lip color. Medical tattoing consists of reconstructive camouflage and repigmentation. (Medical tattoing is not taught at the Andrea Rose Academy of Permanent Cosmetics).
Camouflaging can take two different courses. Either a traditional tattoo can be applied over the discoloration or scar or the skin can be retoned to more closely match the surrounding area.
Re-coloration is the most successful on those areas not exposed to the daylight on a regular basis. The surrounding skin will change color from UV exposure, even if protected by sunblock, but the tattoed area will not change with it.
Persons wishing camouflage procedures should be aware that this process is not a quick one. Visits are scheduled once monthly as the skin must heal completely before more skin tone nuances are added. Success requires time and commitment on the part of both the client and the technician.
Camouflage is not successful in hiding "hyper pigmentation" (dark spots on the skin). This is better acheived by a topical camouflage product or integrating the area into a traditional tattoo design.
